Warm Winter

Winter frost embraces the windowpanes. The air is like a vicious creature; it snaps at our lips, leaving its traces on our every breath. The songbirds have been swept away with warmer winds. For as long as I can remember winter has always been a dreary and oppressive time for me. I suffer from seasonal affective disorder, and often times in the darker months I can be found basking beneath a special light. I cannot whole heatedly state that the light has helped much in the past, but I have found other comforts that take the bitter edge out of the winter woes. It is helpful to surround oneself with simple pleasures, whether it's a frothy cup of hot chocolate, or the soothing glow of candlelight. The projects I have included today exude both elegance and comfort while maintaining a holiday influence. I hope you find them helpful in your quest to keep warm this winter.

Autumn

Autumn is quickly approaching. Remember what that means? Cooler weather, shorter days, and the damp pervading odor of decaying leaves. Rich with natural earthly scents, fall is an immersive season that warms the soul. With an abundance of vivid and startling colours, one cannot help but be lost in the ephemeral beauty of autumn foliage. Welcome the season into your home with these charming and creative crafts.

Time Off

I've been meaning to post more on this blog, but I haven't had the time. That's not to say I'm not attending to my craft projects, I have, but documenting them has not been as easy. For one, my personal computer is now broken >.< so I won't be posting anywhere frequently until I get a new one. I've also had a lot of work to do, and just recently I've injured myself. It's recommended that I take some much needed time off, which I welcome with open arms. I've been wanting to make more of my summer; I never really feel like I do. It's such a short season, I've already seen red leaves popping out here and there. I adore fall, but summertime is ultimately my favorite season. I love the warmth of the sun on my skin, to the see the woods full of life, and the feeling of freedom that accompanies the season. Now that August is here (and almost over) I feel the onset of a cool, and busy autumn; the time of year when I seldom get a moment of rest, and am overloaded with work.

I sincerely hope that any who read this have made the most of their vacation time. Rest is always important, and well deserved. I look forward to sharing more on this blog, including more autumn and Halloween themed projects as the season approaches. Check out my Pinterest for fantastic projects from other crafters as well as Martha Stewart, BHG, and Country Living. I hope to add a collection of personal favorites to my tutorial page here, so check back soon for more updates.

Best wishes,

Thrift Store Chic

Today's tutorial isn't exactly new, I've seen different versions of it scattered across the internet; the basic idea is that you take an old figurine and paint it a solid colour to look chic. It's really popular with animals, particularly birds.

I've seen painted owls in high end decor shops, and their prices are rather outlandish, so I decided I'd rather paint one for myself. It's been a few months now, and I've finally found the owl I was looking for! I scooped him from a thrift shop for only five dollars, and he's quite large. I knew I wanted to paint him either a bright pink, lime green, or electric blue. As you can see in the photo, I went with blue. I'm very happy with my results! This is my 'Thrift store chic' blue owl tutorial.

DIY Spider Shoes

This is my first tutorial for the blog, and how befitting as I simply adore the crap out of it. I have a "thing" for spiders. I know that this is not exactly a shared trait, as many individuals are terrified of them. I once was afraid of spiders too, mind you. I used to run away screaming from them. It changed when I adopted a tarantula, whose fragility, and nervous disposition won my heart. I haven't had a tarantula in a very long time, but the adoration for spiders resonates throughout my life. Naturally, when presented with a very dull pair of flats, I was inclined to embellish them in some way or another, and spiders seemed to be an appropriate selection.

I have created a step by step tutorial for you to make spider shoes, which is fairly straight forward. All you require is some basic sewing skills, the patience to get the job done, and the right tools to do it.  Follow the steps below....

Greetings

Welcome! This is the beginning of "Make me imaginary"; a blog about year long crafting. I'm a University art student who loves the holidays, and loves to make things. I dabble mostly in sewing and sculpture, but I do experiment with other mediums from time to time. My main focus with this blog is to share my holiday projects, my decor tips, and crafting techniques. My absolute favorite holiday is Halloween! Otherwise known as Samhain. You will definitely see a variety of spooky themed crafts on this blog, even if it isn't that time of year!

Speaking of Samhain, my work will not always focus on mainstream holidays. I am not Wiccan, however it's the only religion I feel closely connected to, so I tend to share in Wiccan festivities. Ever so often you may see a pagan craft or two. I look forward to sharing my projects with you!
I hope to include a tutorial page, and perhaps spotlight some other crafter blogs that I feel are worth a look at. Perhaps yours could be one of them! I look forward to sharing my crafts and other projects with you.

Pleasant crafting!

Best
